| Day
One -
75 miles - Saguache to Creede |
|
 |
We begin our journey from the small town of Saguache, Colorado “The
gateway to the San Luis Valley” elev. 7,697 feet and ride south on Hwy 285 on a
very straight, flat smooth road for 22 miles. There are enormous views of the
Sangre de Cristo mountain range, impressive 14,000 ft peaks and a glimpse of
the Great Sand Dunes National Monument.
We turn west on Hwy 112 crossing swollen creeks that feed lush farm
land as we travel through this high mountain valley. We arrive in Del Norte,
Colorado for a sag stop before continuing west on Hwy 160 to South Fork where
our lunch awaits us on the shores of the Rio Grande River. After lunch we cycle
west on Hwy 149 tracing the banks of the Rio Grande River. This road offers
steep canyons, wide open range land, gentle rollers and wildlife viewing.
Experiencing this terrain on a bicycle is not to be missed as we approach the
quaint little town of Creede, Colorado at the 77 mile mark.
Turn your bike/tandem in for a room key, sit on the porch swing
next to the river allowing yourself to be pampered with deluxe lodging and
exquisite cuisine, all blended with a charming western motif.

| Day Two
- 48 Miles -
Creede to Lake City |
|
|
Breakfast is served at the Antlers Ranch before we continue west on
Hwy 149 to start the Alpine Adventure section of our Tour. After 10 miles of
flat pavement we begin the gradual ascent of Spring Creek Pass with a series of
climbs that will warm the soul and excite the senses.
The pavement is pristine for mountain roads and there are plenty of
sag stops so all riders can thoroughly enjoy this Alpine journey. Farther up
the road we continue with great rollers, smooth curves and spectacular views of
the La Garita Wilderness Area. At 35 miles we reach the summit of Slumgullion
Pass (elev. 11,361 ft.) for a well deserved rest, energy bars, clothing change,
fluids and photos. When you are ready to continue the ride, the 10 mile descent
is a classic.
|
|
The road is smooth, the views of multiple 14,000 ft. peaks are
incredible as we pedal through some of the most gorgeous terrain Colorado has
to offer. As we glide down the side of the mountain the San Juan Mountain Range
commands our attention as we pass by steep cliffs, navigate sharp curves and
finally come to rest in the classic mountain town of Lake City, Colorado.
The DreamCycle Tours team will prepare a hearty lunch with all the
trimmings while you settle into personalized cabins for the evening. After our
meal, you are free to enjoy the beauty of Lake City including: Jeep Tours, ATV
Tours, hiking, fishing, volleyball etc.

It is hard to leave this majestic mountain town with so much beauty
to be explored, however, the road awaits with more adventure. We begin with a
wonderful relaxing 21 mile section of Hwy 149 including small rollers, steep
canyons, interesting rock formations and very little traffic as we wind through
the canyon following the shores of the Gunnison River.
At 21 miles we begin short climbs out of the canyon to reveal
impressive wide open range land, immense aspen groves and high mountain desert
before we begin a fun descent that will take us all the way to the Blue Mesa.
At the Blue Mesa we turn east on Hwy 50 and ride into the town of Gunnison,
Colorado where we are greeted with hot tubs, optional massage and refreshments.

viewing quiet streams, beautiful ranch property, steep canyon walls, pine
forests, smooth pavement and no traffic.

open range land and approach the summit of N. Cochetopa Pass (elev. 10,149 ft.)
at the 39 mile mark. Our team will deliver your final gourmet lunch to
accompany some rest, relaxation and photo opportunities. After lunch we
enjoy the home stretch which includes

steep
descents and immaculate road conditions as we cruise through farm land on our
way back to the “Gateway of the San Luis Valley” Saguache, Colorado.
We will pull into the Saguache Creek Lodge so all riders can
